PROS(positive)
- Provide free physician and hospital services to all permanent residents of the United Kingdom.
-Around 86% of prescriptions are provided free across the UK, with free prescriptions covering those who are not of working age (the young and the elderly), or those who satisfy certain criteria such as low income or permanent disabilities.
-People that pay for prescriptions do not pay the full cost. Even if the people have to pay, at most they will pay a flat fee.
-All residents of Wales receive free prescriptions as a matter of government policy. Funding for public health care comes from general taxation.
-Provide quality service by reducing waiting time and giving choices to patients.
-Increased efficiency by privatising some areas in the NHS.
-
CONS(weaknesses)
-Too many people wanted to use the free medical care. In other words, took advantage of the NHS.
-Doctors are able to recommend medical treatment freely without much consideration for cost.
-As a result of increasing healthcare cost, the government would have to collect more taxes to pay for it.
-Increased demand led to what people felt were poor standards within the NHS
